Become a Driving Instructor

The only qualifications required are that

• You hold a EU/EEA driving licence for at least four out of the past six years

• Not been disqualified from driving at any time in the last four years.

• Have no more than 3 points on your licence

• Successfully complete a Criminal Records Check

 

 

We will supply you with all the learning materials, help and motivation needed to get you through every step of the qualification.

On passing your part 2 Driving Ability Test you may wish to take the opportunity to teach on a Trainee Licence if you decide to do so then we will happily sponsor you enabling you to get that all important experience.

The cost of all this is £1995.00.

The ADI qualification is in three parts.

Part 1 Theory
This consists of a multiple choice question section followed by a video based Hazard Perception section.

The Theory Examination is a 90 minute test, consisting of 100 questions split into four categories:
• Road Procedures
• Traffic signs and signals, car control, venerable road users and mechanical knowledge.
• Driving Test, Disabilities and Law
• Publications, Instructional Techniques
Once the questions have been completed there is a short break then Hazard Perception test will start.

 

 

The Hazard Perception test- Consists of 14 video clips each approx 1 minute long and contains a total of 15 scoring hazards. Points are scored on a scale of 1-5 depending on how soon the hazard
Is recognised. On one clip there are two scoring hazards so a maximum 10 points can be achieved from that one clip alone.

Pass Marks
To pass the Theory Test you must pass both sections and obtain an overall pass result.
The overall pass mark for the question section is 85% however you must reach a minimum pass mark of 80% in each of the four categories:

For the Hazard Perception test a pass mark of 57 out of 75 must be achieved.

 

Part 2 Driving Ability

This is a practical test of driving ability and consists of a test of both eye sight and driving technique.The test lasts for approx 60 minutes of which you will be asked two vehicle safety questions at the start.

The drive must be of a high standard of competence demonstrating the principles of eco friendly driving as well as a planned positive and progressive drive adhering to and attaining to national speed limits where safe and possible. You will also have to demonstrate all four manoeuvres to a high standard these include
• Turn in the road,,
• Reverse round a corner to the left and right,
• Reverse (parallel) park
• Reverse Bay Park...

To Pass
A maximum total of six driving errors must be achieved and must not include any serious or dangerous faults.

Part 3 Practical tests of the abilities to instruct.

This test is in two parts each will last approx 30 minutes
You will be asked to demonstrate knowledge and ability by giving practical driving instruction to the examiner who will take the role of the pupil. The examiner will choose a role from the complete beginner to the part trained or experienced driver in need of further driving development training this is done by the examiner selecting two preset tests.

To Pass
You must show that learning has taken place by using teaching techniques pitched at the appropriate level also be able maintain control of the lesson and have the right attitude.
A pass mark of four or above must be achieved on both parts of the test in order to pass your part 3.

You must pass all three parts of the examination in this order, and must complete the whole examination within two years of passing the theory.
