So what is the BTEC AWARD in Safe Driving?
This unique programme is completed while you learn to drive and is gained by a series of Assessments of your Driving Competencies completed by your Instructor. This allows a fully structured approach to each one of your lessons and ultimately to you gaining a professional qualification that will have real significance to employers and insurers
At the same time you will also be taught a variety of methods and driving techniques to improve your fuel efficiency usage, maintenance costs and general wear and tear on your vehicle.
Overall the results from our eco programme, if used correctly, can provide an average saving of up to 15% of total spend.
How does it work? The programme is made up of a number of specific features that you will be taught and assessed on by your instructor.

To gain you BTEC award in safe driving
Qualifying Process
1. Pass the DSA theory & Hazard Perception Test
2. Pass the DSA Practical Driving Test
3. Demonstrate competence on a Motorway
4. Demonstrate competence in the following standards:
a. Ensure the safety of people
b. Give consideration to other road users
c. Maintain appropriate speed, position and control
d. Carry out required manoeuvres
5. Ensure the safety of people
You will be required to ensure the safety of learners, passengers and yourself is maintained whilst demonstrating driving the vehicle. This will require you carry out safety checks before you start and during the demonstration; including:
• Doors being securely shut,
• Mirrors correctly adjusted,
• Seat position correct, as well as head restraints where fitted
• Safety belts worn correctly,
• General vision through all windows
• The vehicle lights and tyres
• You should be able to take appropriate action to remedy any hazards to individual safety.
Give consideration to other road users
You will be required to give consideration to other road users, both through your own driving manner and responding to theirs.
You should be able to anticipate and respond to the actions of other road users in a manner that is safe and courteous.
You should also not do anything to cause actual or potential risk to other road users. This includes giving sufficient indication, when necessary, of your intention to change direction or position.
To give consideration to other road users, you will need to understand how the driving manner affects other road users.
Maintain appropriate speed, position and control
You will be required to maintain control of your vehicle’s speed and position, according to the environmental, road and traffic conditions.
The position of your vehicle should take account of road and lane conventions and you should indicate your intentions to change position or direction.
Road signs and other relevant information should be used to maintain appropriate speed and position.
You should be able to optimise fuel consumption and drive your vehicle in a manner that minimises wear and tear, as well as reduce the risk of accidental damage.
Carry out required manoeuvres
You will be required to drive and control your vehicle through a number of specified manoeuvres, which may include,
• Reverse bay parking,
• Negotiating junctions and roundabouts,
• Turning the vehicle around,
• Straight reversing,
• Reversing around corners,
• Reverse parking,
• Emergency stops and driving slowly.
Before carrying out any manoeuvres, you should ensure the location meets relevant legal, regulatory and safety requirements, whilst also not causing unnecessary inconvenience to others. During manoeuvres, you should give consideration to other road users and respond to their anticipated actions.
